While Petroglyph looks like a cafe, it is actually an art studio. We call it the "Creative Lounge." Browse around. Feel at home. Our mission is to provide you a neighborhood space that is focused on bringing out your creativity. A comfortable place where you can meet friends after work. A nearby haven to get away from your hectic day. A warm workshop to play with your spouse, or your kids -- a way to do something fun that is both individual and together. At Petroglyph Creative Lounge we are dedicated to the success of your creative projects.
We have a few special activities for you to experience. First of all, Petroglyph is world famous as the pioneer of "paint-your-own" ceramics studios. It's true. At Petroglyph we have hundreds of interesting and useful ceramic objects that are prepared as "white bisque." This means that all you need to do is personalize them with our large palette of ceramic paints. We glaze your work for you at no extra charge. We fire our on-site kilns every day, so your piece is generally ready the next evening.

Our selection of bisque changes seasonally, but there are always about 400 pieces to choose from. Dinner sets. Cappuccino mugs. Wine Coolers. Medallions. Decorative objects (like our special Angel'ing Frog, shown above). Turkey platters. Christmas ornaments. Drawer pulls. Piggy banks... you get the idea. If it is made out of ceramic, and goes in your home, you can probably find it at Petroglyph - and personalize it.
In the Spring of 1999, we introduced another life-altering activity. SILVER ALCHEMY. This is a patented invention that does for jewelry what we first did for ceramics. In fact, it does for jewelry what the personal computer and laserprinter did for publishing. It makes it truly accessible to you. We offer a clay-like product that can be molded or sculpted into virtually any shape, and once fired in our kilns, is returned to you as PURE SILVER. It is easy to use and completely non-toxic (it's actually made of an organic rice-based material, along with 99.99% pure silver particles). We have idea sheets and tools and our staff are trained to make your projects perfect every time. The quantity of Silver Alchemy clay it takes to make a pair of earrings or cufflinks, for example, is about $15. The clay to make a big pin in the shape of a heart might be $20 or $30.
Our pricing is very simple. We charge a single flat studio fee (regardless of what activity you choose). We do not charge by the hour (or minute). We tack on no additional glaze fees or firing fees. You simply pay for whatever piece or pieces you'd like to paint (or Silver Alchemy clay you'd like to work), and the one studio fee is good all day. Stay as long as you want. It's simple. It's affordable.

This is what it's like to paint at Petroglyph. But it's not the only way to enjoy this creative space. Many people bring some food and hang out while friends paint. Others read a book or the newspaper in our Library/Stage. Sometimes we have live music on weekends (check your local studio's schedule) -- jazz, folk, blues, classical -- solo or duo musicians play acoustic tunes. And we have lots of popular classes. You don't need to take a class to play at Petroglyph, but sometimes a dedicated evening is just the ticket to pick up some new magic into your personal style.
